Manufacturing of Ceramic Reinforced Metal Matrix Composites (Al/Sicp) And Their Characterization Through Powder Metallurgy Methods

Metal Matrix Composites is two or more combination material with aluminum metal as matrix and devolved to fix act, strength, high temperature stability hardness. composites have been developed so many because it has low density, corrosion proof, cheap easy fabrication. Powder metallurgy technique one of fabrication process in solid state that still economic, doesn't need difficult equipment. Aluminum use this research Al alloy type 2124. powder method using wet mixing pure ethanol, cold compaction 300 MPa inert gas atmospheric Nitrogen (N2) at sintering process. Variation sinter used 450, 500, 550, 600 oC highly average 5 oC/min holding time for 1 hour speed flow lt/min pressure 1000 kgf/cm2. From result can be concluded the mechanical properties physical from reinforced ceramics Al/SiCp increase reinforcement particle addition SiC such as: hardness, wear resistance, coefficient thermal expansion resistance. microstructure analysis, Sic distributed homogeneously test specimen based on SEM structure crystal analysis XRD show dominant phase appear Al, Sic.
